The Great Stuffy Giveaway

When my daughter, Emily, was in grade one, she attended a Christian school. One day a missionary came and talked about her work in Northern Canada. The students were invited to donate a stuffed animal to help the needy children in her community. Emily wanted to help, but choosing one of her much-loved stuffies to give away was much harder than she expected.
Remembering that “God loves a cheerful giver,” I encouraged her to find something she could give joyfully instead of sadly. Emily decided to write a poem for the missionary.
The next day, while students gave a mountain of stuffies, Emily gave her poem. The missionary was surprised and very grateful. She shared how she had written a poem for a missionary when she was a little girl, and now a little girl had written one for her!
God knew Emily’s heart. He knew how precious her stuffies were to her.
God knew the missionary lady’s heart. He knew the kind of encouragement she needed. And He worked it all together for good.
Remember, there are many different kinds of ways to give and share. By Emily thinking carefully about what she could cheerfully share, God was able to guide her thoughts so that she could give away a very special blessing.
