The go-to Creation Bible verse to teach kids is Genesis 1:31.

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. Genesis 1:31 (NIV)

Most kids, ages 4-6, can learn it after a couple repeats – especially if you add actions in time to the “beat.”

  • God saw all (shade your eyes and look side to side)

  • That he had made, (pound your fists)

  • And it was very good. (give two-thumbs up)

Try it a few times through together and then just follow along with the actions while your child says the verse. – Easy!

Instead of showing different ways to practice this verse I’m going to show you how to simplify it for a toddler and how to make it challenging for an older child.

First – the extra simple way that toddlers LOVE!

Using a picture book of animals point to a picture of a dog (for example) and say, “God made dogs!” Do this for three or four animals, then close the book with a flourish, stand up and say, “The Bible tells us that… (now it’s time for the verse)

  • Everything (spread your arms super wide)

  • God made (point up as high as you can reach)

  • was good! (jump up as high as you can)

Do the verse again and encourage your child to do great, big actions with you.

Sit back down and open the book. Do a few more “God made ___” pages and then close the book, stand up and say, “The Bible tells us that…

Repeat the Bible verse with great, big actions.

You will probably get tired of this game before your kid does!

Now – the challenging way to help older kids concentrate on the words a bit more.

Learn it in sign language!

Get your kid to help research the signs and decide how best to demonstrate the verse.

For example, I went online and found a great site (ASL Sign Language Dictionary) and then decided which words I wanted to sign, so that the verse made sense.

Here’s what I decided to learn…

God saw all He made. It was very good.

Practice 3 or 4 signs at a time and when they have the whole verse learned fluently, “publish” it!

Put on white gloves, play some music in the background and record it. Or, have your kid show it to a younger class at church. Who knows, maybe your kid is a performer and will turn it into a whole dance routine for Grandpa and Grandma!
