Dirty Crystals

When I was a teenager, I lived in Fort St. John, British Columbia and there, if I went for a walk beside a stream or river, I could find crystals lying right on top of the dirt!

These crystals were gypsum crystals, and they looked dirty even after they’d been washed. That’s because they formed with dirt inside them!

Let me tell you why I think gypsum crystals are like us.

Everybody, since Adam and Eve, has been born separated from God – like crystals with dirt inside. We can ask God to forgive our sins, and He will. Yay! We’re saved! That’s like washing off all the dirt on the outside. But God doesn’t want to stop there. He wants to clean the inside too! And He can do it!!

Instead of making the same mistakes over and over and asking for forgiveness for the same stuff every day for the rest of our lives, we can be changed. God’s love can actually soak way down deep inside us and change our dirty hearts.

Remember, just like it takes time for a crystal to form, it takes time for God to work on your heart. And when He takes us to Heaven, He’ll finish His work in us, and we’ll be completely sparkly crystals – inside and out!
